MWD’s Water-Use Mandates Don’t Impact WVWD Service Area

APRIL 27, 2022
The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California’s Board of Directors voted to implement a series of actions to address serious water shortages in parts of its service area that solely depend on the State Water Project. Those restrictions do not directly affect residents and businesses who receive water from Walnut Valley Water District through their retail water provider (Three Valleys Municipal Water District) because the region will not be receiving water from the State Water Project starting June 1st.
WVWD’s service area continues to have reliable water supplies for 2022 and beyond due to a long-term commitment to conservation and investments in a diversified water supply portfolio, including drought-resilient sources. However, extreme drought conditions are felt widely across the West, and we strongly support everyone taking appropriate conservation actions where they are needed.
WVWD’s Board of Directors enacted water-use mandates, Stage 2 – Mandatory 20% Water Use Reduction in January of this year. Those restrictions will remain in place and a detailed description of those conservation measures can be found at https://www.wvwd.com/drought-resources/ and on the District’s social media pages @WVWDh2o. WVWD customers may water outdoors for up to three days per week and up to fifteen minutes per station, no outdoor watering is permitted between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.
WVWD continues to support Governor Newsom’s call for increased voluntary conservation at homes and businesses. We encourage actions such as taking shorter showers and fixing leaks immediately, along with taking advantage of rebates for replacing turf with landscapes that are WaterSmart, climate-appropriate, and the use of California Natives. Information about rebates is available at www.wvwd.com/conservation/ and bewaterwise.com.
