Water Filtration Devices

General Information
If a drinking water treatment device claims to reduce
toxic chemicals or makes other health-related performance claims,
the California
Department
of Health Services (CDHS) must certify the device. There are 350
different California-certified water treatment devices. Unfortunately,
many uncertified devices are also sold to unsuspecting consumers.
Devices certified by the state will have a label with the California
certification
number. In addition, each device will be accompanied by a state certificate
listing the contaminants that the device has been proven to effectively
reduce. To inquire about certified residential
water treatment devices, contact the California Department of Health
Services at (916) 449-5650 or visit their web site: www.dhs.ca.gov/ps/ddwem/technical/certification/Devices.html.
Water devices
that claim to improve aesthetic qualities such as taste and odor
are not regulated by the California Department
of Health Services.
